Bone of My Bone and Flesh of My Flesh Marriage Retreat
Over Valentine's weekend, February 12-15, the Southwest Region Conference hosted its beloved annual Married Couples Retreat at the Lone Star Campground in Athens, Texas. The retreat, themed "Bone of My Bone and Flesh of My Flesh," drew couples from across the region and beyond, with guests traveling from as far as Florida and Illinois to participate.
Set against the serene backdrop of the campground, the weekend provided a sacred space for couples to step away from the demands of daily life and focus on strengthening their most important earthly relationship. The carefully curated program addressed critical aspects of married life with both depth and practical application.
The retreat's presenters, Dr. Beverly and Ted "Odell" Robinson, brought a wealth of experience and expertise as marriage and family therapists. Their sessions covered vital topics including intimacy, helping couples understand and deepen their emotional and physical connection; reconnection, providing tools for couples who felt distant to rediscover the spark that brought them together; and conflict resolution, equipping partners with healthy communication strategies for navigating disagreements.
The Robinsons' blend of professional insight, personal testimony, and biblical wisdom resonated deeply with attendees. Their interactive approach encouraged couples to engage openly with one another, fostering vulnerability and growth in a supportive environment.
The weekend culminated in a profoundly moving vow renewal ceremony, where 50 couples stood together to reaffirm their commitment to one another before God and their fellow retreat participants. The ceremony was co-officiated by Dr. Carlton Byrd and Pastor Raynell Smith, creating a moment of deep spiritual significance as couples held hands and spoke words of renewed dedication.
